The Real Wajah: Symbolic Expressions of Dozens of Artists in Ubud

The art exhibition titled The Real Wajah officially opened at Artomorrow Artspace on Jalan Sanggingan, Ubud, Gianyar, on Sunday, June 9, 2025. The exhibition featured dozens of artists from various regions in Indonesia and ran until Wednesday, June 19, 2025.

The opening ceremony, which began at 5:00 PM WITA (Central Indonesian Time), was a lively affair, officiated by Ni Wayan Sri Ekayanti, S.Sos., M.M., Owner of Bali Moon Art Space. The warm and enthusiastic atmosphere was evident in the presence of artists, art enthusiasts, members of the public, and international tourists who filled the exhibition space.

A Collaboration of Three Art Spaces

This exhibition is the result of a collaboration between the WAJAH (Wajah Art Community), Artomorrow Artspace, and Bali Moon Art Space. The overarching theme is the face — as a symbol of identity expression, self-representation, and social and psychological reflection of humankind in modern life.

Dozens of artists from various backgrounds are showcasing their best works, including:

Sholihun, Syukur S. Budi, Farfan, Sang Made Budiasa, Feri, Huda Fauzan, Herman, A. Tem, Luky, Mahmud, Sucipto, Bambang, Suswanto, Mandira, Soger, Desira, Patrianto, Dewa Merta, Imam Syafi’i, Rudy Suliyanto, M. Sholeh, Willi Chen, Ngurah Astawa, Erwin, Gung Adi, Antara, Aris, Didik, Didik Aborijin, Agus Fauzan, Ekaswarna, Nanang Sitni, and Kojin.

The Meaning Behind The Real Wajah

The head of the Wajah Art Community, Huda Fauzan, explained that the theme The Real Wajah was chosen as a reflection on human identity and existence in the contemporary era.
According to him, the face is not just a physical form, but a meaningful symbol that depicts truth, falsehood, and a person’s true identity.

“The face can be both a symbol of honesty and a mask of life. Through these works, the artists attempt to uncover the layers of meaning hidden behind human facial expressions,” said Huda Fauzan when met at the exhibition site.

Space for Art Appreciation and Reflection

This exhibition, open to the public daily until June 19, 2025, features a variety of artworks — ranging from paintings and installations to mixed media. Each work offers in-depth visual exploration and reflective ideas about modern life.

“We invite the public, art lovers, and tourists currently in Ubud to come. This is not just an exhibition, but a space for contemplation to understand the face of humanity amidst changing times,” he added.

Ubud, the Center of the Global Arts Ecosystem

Through The Real Wajah, the organizers hope that this exhibition will not only serve as a platform for art appreciation, but also encourage the growth of the arts ecosystem in Ubud, which has long been known as one of the world’s centers of art and culture.
